The concept of meditation is simple—make room in your busy mind for peace and quiet. The process of meditation is equally simple—sit quietly somewhere (preferably where you will not be disturbed) and watch your mind at play. Your attention will wander. Simply return to watching.
Maintaining this watchful stance may be helped by having a home base, a place to which you return when you notice that you are no longer watching. Here are two simple ways to establish this home base. Use the one that appeals to you.
I. As you breathe in, say to yourself, “In”. As you breathe out, say to yourself “Out”.
II. Count each breath. When you reach 10, start over.
